Spurs slap record price tag on Gareth Bale

Tottenham Hotspur is prepared to part with their prized winger Gareth Bale this summer and will offload the player to Spanish giants Real Madrid, but it will cost the Santiago Bernabeu club a whopping £ 103 million.

Real Madrid have made it clear they are willing to break the bank in their pursuit of the Welsh winger, who has been a prime target for Madrid president Florentino Perez as he looks to hand over another Galactico to new manager Carlo Ancelotti but it seems Spurs are adamant at holding out for a massive fee for a player they bought for a few million pounds back in 2008.

However, it has also been revealed by a Spanish newspaper that the capital giants are willing to match the extraordinary asking price for the player, which would shatter the transfer record of £ 80 million they paid Manchester United for Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2009, but they want to offer £ 86 million in cash and winger Angel di Maria as a makeweight in the deal.

The Spanish newspaper has claimed Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas is a huge fan of the Argentine winger and sees him as an ideal replacement if Gareth Bale indeed swaps the white of Spurs for the white of Madrid.

Meanwhile, Premier League champions Manchester United are also in the running for the signature of a player who won all the individual awards in the Premier League last season but it is certain they will not pay a dime beyond £ 60 million for a player they lost out to when Bale signed for Spurs from Southampton.

United want a marquee signing to kick off the reign of David Moyes and see Gareth Bale as an ideal player if their pursuit of Ronaldo doesn’t bear fruit.

SPURS MAKE TRIP

Tottenham will be making the trip to the Liberty stadium to play against Swansea city during the weekend. This will make or break the season for Tottenham, as it is one of the crucial matches from now till end of the season.

Andre Villas-Boas’ men come into the encounter after having lost the three recent matches, but the international break would have certainly provided them with so much needed time away from the media criticism. As a result, Swansea midfielder Nathan Dyer expects Tottenham to be back to their best in this match.

He has said that the team should be extremely wary of winger Gareth Bale, who has already proven that he is one of the best players in the world right now. The 23-year-old has managed to score 16 goals this season, while most of them have come in recent weeks. He also has contributed several assists as well. Swansea have been one of the surprise packages this season, as they have been able to sustain their position near the top of the table while also managing to lift their first ever silverware. They will be hoping to finish this season on a strong note.

They come into the match after having won just two matches in the last five. “Gareth has always been quite big, but it’s the pace. I don’t remember him always being that fast. And now he’s got power. I’ve always said he’s the best player I’ve played with. His left foot, his delivery from a young age was unbelievable. Now he’s added more to it. There’s not much you can do to stop him. If he’s on form, he’s on form,” said Dyer. The 25-year-old has had an impressive season for Swansea after making 29 appearances. He also has scored three goals in these matches as well.

BALE HAILS WALES

Gareth Bale has hailed the Wales team for putting up a good performance in the friendly match against Austria which was played at the Liberty Stadium on Wednesday. Wales won that match by 2-1.

It was Bale himself who was the stand out player for Wales in that match. The Tottenham winger was in great form and he was the one who opened the scoring for his team in the 21st minute of the match. Later in the second half, Sam Vokes doubled the lead of Wales.

A goal by Austria’s Mark Janko in the 75th minute reduced the lead to 1-2, but, that was the first and last goal scored by the Austrian team in the game.

Talking to the reporters after the match, Bale said, “We played sensibly throughout the game. We just kept things simple. This win has really boosted our confidence and we will go into the world cup qualifiers next month in a good frame of mind.”

When asked about his own performance in the match, Bale said, “It’s always nice to score goals and when your goal helps team to secure a win, it feels even better. It’s a team game and it’s all about contributing for the team.
“We shouldn’t forget the contribution of the defenders in this win. I felt they were outstanding today. They made some great clearances.”

“The whole team contributed in this victory. Every player did a good job on the field.”

The manager of Wales team, Chris Coleman, also praised Bale for his great performance in the match. Coleman said, “It was really a fantastic goal by Gareth. He is a player of high calibre and we are lucky to have such a player in our team.”

This was Bale’s 39th match for Wales. The Tottenham winger has scored 10 goals for his national side so far.

BALE WILL STAY

The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has said that it would be almost impossible for the winger Gareth Bale to be sold in the January transfer window. The 23-year-old Welshman has been linked with many clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona, while he has also recently admitted his interest in moving to a foreign club.

The Real Madrid manager José Mourinho is one of the huge admirers of the Welshman and he is keen to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu. It is thought that the two clubs have agreed a deal with each other after the transfer of the Croatian midfielder Luka Modric.

Aside from the publicly announced agreement between the two clubs over various aspects like coaching and training, it is also thought that Real Madrid have the first preference on Gareth Bale if the club decided to ever sell him. Bale is one of the most highly valued players in the world, with Tottenham putting a pricetag of more than £ 45 million on his services. Ahead of the January transfer window, it has been rumoured that the player will be subjected to bids from Real Madrid. The manager Andre Villas-Boas, though, ruled out the possibility of the club selling him in January by saying that it was almost impossible probability.

“It is completely impossible he will leave in January. The transfer window always gives you the opportunity to strengthen your squad. Teams will lose players to African Cup of Nations, but there is a chance to strengthen a little bit. Ideally you’d prefer to avoid it. It’s for us, we should plan our season, stick to players we see in summer, define our season in our season plan and go on from there,” said Andre Villas-Boas. Bale already has six goals from 14 matches played in the campaign so far.

NO CHANGE IN STYLE

The Manchester City defender Pablo Zabaleta has said that he will not be changing his style of play for the visit of Tottenham. The Argentine defender will be up against the Tottenham winger Gareth Bale, who was at his imperious best in the last time he visited Manchester.

Gareth Bale absolutely destroyed Manchester United in the 3-2 win for Tottenham a few weeks ago. Even though he has not been at the same level since then, Pablo Zabaleta still reckons that Gareth Bale will be one of the players to watch out for in the match.

Yet, he will not be changing his style of play because he has never done it for any other player. Pablo Zabaleta has praised the Gareth Bale by saying that he has everything in his locker. He can not only dribble past players but also score wonderful goals as well. The Argentine defender has come up against the likes of Juan Mata, Ryan Giggs, and Theo Walcott during his time at Manchester City, and he is prepared to face the challenge from the Welsh winger as well. Tottenham come into the match looking to end the unbeaten home record of Manchester City, which has stood for a few years.

“It is a great motivation when you are against a good player. He is one of the best wingers in the world. He has great pace. He is very fast and he has a great cross. His technique is very good. He has got a very good left foot. He scores a lot of goals, so he is a fantastic player. I just do everything the same, whether it’s Gareth Bale or another winger,” said Zabaleta ahead of the match this weekend. Manchester City can move into the second place with a victory over Tottenham.

WALES LOSE ONE-SIDED MATCH

The Serbian football team has defeated Wales in a World Cup qualifier match by a huge margin of 6-1 at Stadion Karadorde. That was a completely one sided encounter and the Wales team never looked in control.

Gareth Bale was the only Wales player who found the net, and even that, according to Tottenham news, was fortunate. The Serbian supporters would have a lot of fun while watching the match. It was a great display of dominance by the Serbian team. On the other hand, the Wales players put up an extremely ordinary performance and ended up losing the match.

The Serbian players came into the match with all guns blazing. The first goal of the match was scored in the 16th minute when Aleksandar Kolarov took Serbia ahead by beating Boaz Myhill with a powerful left footed shot. The Serbian team didn’t take too much time in doubling the lead.

Zoran Tosic scored the second goal for Serbia, but, all the hard work was done by Kolarov. He got the ball at a long distance from the penalty box, but, he made his way through the midfield and brought the ball inside the box. However, his shot was not bang on target and it was blocked by Myhill, but, Tosic was quick to latch on the rebound. He played a low shot from a distance of 8 yards to flatten Myhill.

Wales came back with Bale’s goal in the 31st minute, but, that proved to be the first and last goal scored by the Wales team in the match. After that, there was not much resistance shown by the Wales players. Filip Djuricic, Dusan Tadic and Branislav Ivanovic scored the next 3 goals for Serbia and secured the victory of the team. The Serbian team will play its next World Cup qualifier game against Belgium on 12th of October.

BALE SLAMS ADAM

Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has said that Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam is a coward after he deliberately tried to injure the player in a friendly match between Liverpool and Tottenham in the United States. Both the clubs are currently in the pre-season tour of the United States and were playing in a friendly match.

Charlie Adam and Gareth Bale, however, have history of coming together. The former Blackpool defender has been accused of injuring the Welsh midfielder deliberately on two occasions in the past and he did so this time around as well, according to the former Southampton winger.

Gareth Bale suffered a serious injury after the friendly match and is likely to know how long the injury will keep him out. The Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas was involved in a war of words with the Liverpool midfielder after the end of the 0-0 match. Gareth Bale has said that he certainly feels that Charlie Adam did the tackle on purpose with the sole intention of injuring him, which he has already done in two separate incidents in the past. The Scottish midfielder moved to Liverpool in a £ 9 million deal only last season, but had a very poor season as the club finished in the eighth position.

“He’s obviously come for me twice now – and he’s got me twice. From what I’ve seen of him on the pitch, I think he’s a bit of a coward. There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments. I was out for three months that time and one player told me he went out to do the same thing to me again. It’s flattering when players try to take you out in a game, but when it threatens your career it becomes more serious than that,” said Gareth Bale after the match.

TOUGH FIRST GAME

Tottenham midfielder Gareth Bale has said that he is extremely excited about the start of the new season. The fixture list for the 2012-13 Premier league season was recently revealed.

Tottenham have a tough opening match, which will test them to the core according to Gareth Bale. Tottenham be taking on Newcastle United in the first match of the season, but they will not be having this match at home. Due to the fact that this match is being played at the St James’s Park, it is not being viewed as the ideal match for getting three points in the opening fixture for Tottenham.

Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a move away from the club in the summer, has said that he does not think about losing the opening match of the campaign, but is extremely looking forward to the match against Newcastle.

Newcastle United came extremely close to testing Tottenham in the closing stages of the season for the final fourth place. However, Tottenham managed to sneak past Newcastle in the final few matches of the campaign to finish in the fourth place, although they were denied an opportunity to play in the Champions League later.

“It’s important to get off to a good start. It will be difficult, especially away from home, but it’s a good early test for us. Newcastle had a fine season. No-one really expected them to be right up there and maintain it throughout the season. They all worked hard, they worked together and that counts a lot in football. They’ve some great players and it will be a case of keeping those players quiet and trying to impose our game plan,” said Gareth Bale after the announcement of the new fixture list for the 2010-13 Premier league season.

BALE WILL STAY

Former Tottenham player Alan Mullery has said that he expects Tottenham to retain the services of Gareth Bale beyond the end of the season.

The Tottenham midfielder has been linked with a move to either Barcelona or Real Madrid in the summer, with both teams looking at the possibility of playing around £ 30 million for the exciting winger. Due to the fact that Tottenham have now missed out on the Champions League for next season, many have been predicting that it will be very tough for the London club to keep hold of stars like Gareth Bale and Luka Modric.

They faced tough competition for their star names in the summer after missing out on the Champions League. Now, it will be the second consecutive season without top-level European football, which will be tough to digest for the stars at Tottenham. Luka Modric came extremely close to signing for Chelsea in the summer transfer window for £ 40 million only for Tottenham to convince him to stay for another season. Alan Mullery expects only Luka Modric to depart the club in the summer, while they can keep hold of Gareth Bale for another season with the promise of Champions League football at the end of it.

“They have got into a situation where they may lose one or two of their best players, and there are going to be lot of questions asked over the next few weeks. The one person who has got to remain strong is the chairman and my belief is that Daniel Levy will. I think big clubs will come in and if huge sums of money are submitted, like if someone bids £40million for Gareth Bale, there is always a temptation to sell,” said Alan Mullery regarding the future of Gareth Bale.

MORE DEFENDING PRACTICE NEEDED

Legendary AC Milan defender Paolo Maldini has said that Tottenham’s star player Gareth Bale is a very good player, but he does lack in the defensive area of things. Paolo Maldini is regarded as one of the greatest defenders of recent times and he represented AC Milan for more than 20 years at the top level.

However, he is of the opinion that Gareth Bale may be extremely good at in terms of the attacking sense, but he needs to learn defending as well in order to be one of the absolute greats in world football. Gareth Bale has definitely come of age since Tottenham appointed Harry Redknapp.

He has been one of the main reasons for Tottenham continuously challenging for the Champions League football in the last few years. He initially started out as a left back when he was originally signed from Southampton for around £ 8 million. There was a time during his career when he simply was not able to be on the part of a winning team mainly because of this poor defending. It consequently led him to be dropped from the team altogether, but the arrival of Harry Redknapp revealed his career. Instead of using him as a left back, Harry Redknapp used him as a left winger.

This move paid off great dividends, as Gareth Bale has been one of the main players for Tottenham since then. “Most left-backs now are converted midfielders, much more likely to attack. The rule is: if you cannot get back, you must not go forward. The current best specialist is Marcelo, who gets it right in both areas. Bale [has been] unmasked: [he] knows only how to attack. Just like [Milan’s Urby] Emanuelson,” the former Italian international mused to Il Corriere dello Sport.
